Overview

This ultimate journey with Hurtigruten is described as “The World’s Most Beautiful Voyage” by Lonely Planet. See 34 ports and cover over 2,500 nautical miles, which allows you to explore every inch that Norway’s magical coast has to offer. Any time of year, it’s a voyage like no other. 22 of the ports lie north of the Polar Circle – and you will be given the opportunity to join excursions tailor-made to match your exploration level . On this voyage, you will not only feel like an explorer, you will be one.

With spring comes the return of the warmth and daylight, which is like an infusion of vitamins, kickstarting life along the Norwegian coast. The migratory birds return, meaning the coast is teeming with life. You’ll also visit the beautiful Lyngenfjord, with its majestic mountain backdrop and unique nature. In summer, the long light days seem to energise both nature and people. Even as far south as Bergen, you can experience 19 hours of daylight. Flowers bloom, rivers fill with fish and giant waterfalls cascade towards the ocean, creating a picture-perfect setting for a summer holiday. North of the Arctic Circle, you can experience the Midnight Sun – a natural phenomenon. The autumn sailings include a visit to the incredibly beautiful Hjørundfjord. Majestic mountains surround this narrow fjord, and Hurtigruten offer several excursions that let you explore this spectacular area. Enjoy a beautiful voyage during this season, as the fresh and clear coastal air enhances the intense red and yellow that fi lls mountainsides, hilltops and forests. From the deck, you may see the sharp profiles of the highest peaks sprinkled with the first snow, against the background of an ice blue sky

The Ship

The ship is named after the famous Trollfjord, situated between the Vesterålen and the Lofoten Islands. Trollfjord is one of the highlights of the voyage south, and is famous locally for “The battle of the Trollfjord” which took place here in the winter of 1890. The ship has a comfortable interior, with an extensive use of Norwegian wood and stone. MS Trollfjord´s maiden voyage was in 2002 and she is one of the newest ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. Being MS Midnatsol´s sister ship, they share many of the same characteristics, such as the beautiful panorama lounge and suites. On board the ship you will discover original paintings by the Lofoten artist Kaare Espolin Johnsen, paintings that were originally on board the old Hurtigruten ship MS Harald Jarl.
