Meander down the 12th largest river in the world in absolute luxury, with each ship lovingly hand-crafted in brass and teak. The Mekong Pandaw glides down the great river, experiencing an adventure like no other. The ships are small, the atmosphere informal and experience unforgettable.
Built in 2003, the Mekong Pandaw was the first modern river tourism company to sail the route from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia. In keeping with the rest of the Pandaw fleet, the Mekong Pandaw is built with ultra-shallow drafts which allows the ship to travel through low water and passages unattainable to the larger, deeper-drafted vessel. The décor accurately reflects its surroundings, with brass and teak adding to the ambience. The entire cruise experience is built around the river from which it takes its name, with the focus firmly on the appreciation of the mighty Mekong and all that it has to offer from the position of absolute luxury and class.
The Pandaw Stateroom measures 168 square ft. and is tastefully decorated to achieve colonial-era character and magnificent contemporary comfort. The staterooms include the charming feature of a French-balcony window, meaning that guests can experience the sights, smells and feel of the outdoors from the sublime comfort of their stateroom. Due to the tropical locations explored on this cruise, television signal is unreliable and is therefore not included - without this distraction, guests can fully immerse themselves in their natural surroundings. The amenities include fresh fruit and regional flowers upon arrival, a beautiful kimono and slippers, spa-branded toiletries, unlimited mineral water and complimentary use of the DVD player and selection of DVDs from the library.
The dining room itself is lined with retractable walls, providing diners with fresh air as they enjoy their meal. Offering both Eastern and Western cuisine, guests are free to choose between the exotic and the familiar, equalling in skill of execution. The accommodating staff are particularly conscious of catering to guests with special dietary requirements, often going above and beyond to ensure every passenger enjoys a superb meal. Begin the day with a beautiful breakfast buffet, while lunch offers a selection of soups, creative salads and an exciting dessert table. For your evening meal, guests will experience a waiter-service, while sampling the best of what the local region has to offer.
The Mekong Pandaw is dedicated to providing an all-encompassing experience, where passengers encounter the true essence of every location. Shore excursions introduce guests to local markets with the on board chef, walks guided by regional experts and river and jungle trips via speedboat. Venture out and explore on high quality mountain bikes, with the knowledgeable crew able to recommend the best cycle routes or accompany travellers if so wished. In keeping with the informal atmosphere, the on-board entertainment remains low-key and relaxed. Educational talks from expert guides will enrich and surprise you, while the cooking demonstrations and fruit carvings will inspire and delight. Come along to a themed movie night, or marvel at a cultural performance presented by acts such as the Royal Khmer Ballet in Cambodia.
Enhance your river cruise experience by visiting the on board spa and drift off to a world of total tranquillity. Experience traditional Southeast Asian spa treatments and therapies, which include head, feet or full body massages, available in both single or double massage rooms. The highly skilled and fully trained staff will send you into a state of serenity with heavenly aromatherapy, before you fully indulge in the total bliss of the relaxation room, a space designed to leave you feeling peaceful and unperturbed.
While the emphasis remains heavily on the natural delights of the Mekong river, there are several social events that have become part of the tradition of the Pandaw expedition. A welcome dinner will introduce you to your fellow passengers and exceptional staff, and a number of cocktail parties will transform those introductions into new found friendships. At the end of the journey, a farewell gala is held where fantastic food and drink is served and guests can reflect on their remarkable adventure.
With a crew to passenger ratio of 1:2, the 48 guests can expect the utmost in quality of service. The intimate nature of the boat ensures that passengers receive a personal service, from staff who are dedicated to providing comfort and care at every opportunity.
