The History of Saga Cruises

For over 70 years, Saga has been offering exclusive holidays to the over 50s. But it wasn’t until 1996 that the brand acquired its very first cruise ship, Saga Rose. Since then, Saga Ocean Cruises has gone from strength to strength, now boasting two impressive purpose-built vessels that sail guests to incredible destinations all around the world.

Saga Ocean Cruises Ships

There are two ships in the Saga Ocean Cruises fleet, Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery both of which boast fine dining, excellent entertainment and grand public rooms, along with well-planned itineraries. The beauty of Saga’s cruise ships is their diminutive stature which allows them to reach smaller ports of call that other larger vessels cannot.

Onboard Experience

Accommodation

Sister ships Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery each welcome 999 passengers across 554 all-balcony cabins in Standard, Deluxe and Suite categories. All entry-level cabins benefit from a twin/king-size bed, bedside tables, writing desk/dressing table, coffee table, chairs, safe, marble bathrooms with a shower, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, robe and slippers as well as British plug sockets with USB outlets, a TV, mini-bar and tea and coffee-making facilities.

Saga Ocean Cruises specialises in creating cruises with solo travellers in mind; every effort is made to ensure that each ship in the fleet has a friendly atmosphere to put solo cruisers at ease. Because of this, Spirit of Adventure has 100 single cabins while Spirit of Discovery has 109.

Dining

Fine dining is one of the real pleasures of cruising with Saga. Best of all, you can eat wherever and whenever you like, in a choice of venues to suit your every mood. Enjoy The Club by Jools on board Spirit of Discovery, a steakhouse with a quality menu to rival some of the world’s finest supper clubs and a sociable atmosphere and line-up of evening entertainment to match. You may even be lucky enough to dine with the Captain in the Chart or Ward Rooms which seat just 14 people. Alternatively, room service is also available at any time of day or night.

Entertainment

You’ll find plenty to keep you entertained during your time on board Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery with an extensive selection of lectures, quizzes, dance classes and entertainment. Get your adrenaline pumping in the gym, play a game up on deck, relax with an iPad to keep in touch with friends and family back home, enjoy the onboard library and chill out with a good book or simply head to a quiet corner to watch the world go by and take a moment for yourself. Come evening, there are plenty of thrilling options from cocktail parties to cabaret shows, classical recitals to casual dinners. You’re truly spoilt for choice!

Destinations

Saga Ocean Cruises sail where other cruise ships can’t. Enjoy cruises to the British Isles and Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Europe, the Canary Islands and North America.
