Travelling to Southampton by Car

One of the biggest advantages of cruising from Southampton is how well connected it is by road. Wherever you’re travelling from in England, major motorways lead you almost directly to the port.

From the North

If you’re travelling from cities like Manchester, Leeds or Birmingham, the M6 and M40 connect easily to the M3, which takes you straight into Southampton. The journey is generally straightforward motorway driving for most of the route.

From the South

For those travelling from the South Coast, Dorset or Devon, the A31 and M27 provide direct access to Southampton.

From the East

Coming from London, Essex or Kent? The M3 is your most direct route from the capital, while the M25 connects efficiently to the M3 for travellers further east.

From the West

If you’re travelling from Bristol, Bath or South Wales, the M4 connects to the M3, making the journey simple and well signposted.

Public Transport Options

If you’d rather leave the car at home, Southampton has plenty of public transport links.

By Train

Southampton Central Station is the main rail hub and is around 10 to 15 minutes by taxi from the cruise terminals. Direct trains run from London Waterloo in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, with connections from Birmingham, Manchester, and other major cities.

By Coach

National Express operates services to Southampton Coach Station, which is centrally located and a short taxi ride from the port.

By Taxi

Taxis are readily available from Southampton Central Station and the coach station. Many guests also choose to pre-book a private transfer for added peace of mind.

Chauffeur Services with Select Cruise Lines

For an even more stress-free start to your holiday, some cruise lines include complimentary chauffeur services in their fares (terms and conditions apply). These may be available with:

  • Silversea
  • Scenic
  • Saga Ocean Cruises
  • Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises

This can be a great added benefit, particularly for longer journeys, allowing you to travel door-to-door in comfort without the need to drive or arrange parking.
