I’ve been lucky enough to sail with Cunard six or seven times now, and every voyage reminds me why I love travelling with them so much.
Each of their ships has its own character, but if I had to choose a favourite, it would always be Queen Mary 2. There’s something very special about her - she feels grand yet welcoming, and every time I step on board, I feel right at home.
When I’m looking for a quiet moment, my favourite place is the Promenade Deck on Deck 7. I like to head there after dinner if I’m not going to a show. Sometimes I’ll walk a few laps, other times I’ll just sit in one of the chairs, relax and watch the world go by. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of fresh sea air and the sound of the ocean around you.
When I want to socialise, you’ll usually find me in the Commodore Club on Deck 9. It’s the perfect spot for a pre- or post-dinner drink, with its elegant atmosphere and beautiful views. For me, it’s where you really feel the spirit of Cunard - relaxed, refined and very sociable.
Dining is always a highlight on board, and I have to say, I feel incredibly fortunate to have experienced the Queens Grill Restaurant. The food and service are just exceptional. I also love the Grills Terrace at lunchtime - it’s a wonderful place to sit outside, enjoy a relaxed meal and soak up the sunshine.
One thing I think everyone should experience on a Cunard voyage is the Insight Speakers programme. I often like to slip quietly into the back of the Royal Court Theatre or Illuminations Lounge and listen. The variety of speakers and the quality of the talks always amazes me, and I come away having learned something new every time. I’ve even been lucky enough to be part of the programme myself on a few occasions, which makes it even more special to me.
Of course, no surprise here - the Fitness Centre on Deck 7 is also one of my favourite places on board. Staying active is such a big part of who I am, so I always make time for a workout before breakfast. I also enjoy trying the different classes on offer, which keeps my routine fun and varied.
And finally, I can’t not mention the Golden Lion on Deck 2. It’s such a fun and friendly pub atmosphere, and they serve the best fish and chips at sea - truly a must-try!
For me, these spaces make every Cunard cruise feel special. They’re a mix of quiet corners, lively social spots and unforgettable experiences - everything I look for in a holiday.
