View Cruise DealA visit to the island of Tenerife has to include a trip to Mount Teide, which, at 12,200 ft, is the third-highest volcanic structure in the world. Standing majestically in its own national park, the highest point of the volcano can be accessed by cable car, you can even apply for a permit to reach its crater if you’re feeling brave. Your vantage point at the top of Mount Teide will afford you breathtaking views of Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro - it’s certainly an excursion not to be missed.
You might only expect to find pyramids in Egypt but Tenerife is home to its very own Pirámides de Güímar. Set in what’s known as an ethnographic park, these impressive tiered structures have been dated to the 19th century, though mystery surrounds their construction. The surrounding park, which was founded in 1998, also includes a museum providing you with more information about the pyramids, plus an auditorium, walking routes and large garden areas.
Make your way to Los Cristianos Harbour to watch the world go by, marvel at the stylish yachts and indulge in a delicious bite to eat. This former fishing village has blossomed over the last 60 years. Today, it features a cornucopia of restaurants, bars and gift shops along its waterfront promenade. If you’re feeling energetic, you can choose to take part in some of the great activities on offer from this pretty harbour, including sailing and diving. Dolphin and whale-watching tours can also be booked.
