The oasis of Bermuda boasts a year-round balmy climate and plenty of distinctive local colour, from a landscape of tidy pastel houses, to businessmen dressed in Bermuda shorts. This infamous 'land of shipwrecks' is also abounding with tragic and heroic tales. Bermuda was first settled in 1609 by shipwrecked English colonists, headed for the colony of Virginia. Since then, more than 400 other vessels have suffered a similar fate. Needless to say, you'll find some of the best wreck diving and snorkelling in the world here. You'll also find excellent golfing, sailing and sports fishing. Horseshoe Bay's wide crescent of soft pink sand is arguably Bermuda's most beautiful beach. Gibbs Hill Lighthouse gives panoramic views of the entire island, while its beacon can be seen up to 60km away. And the Royal Navy Dockyard, with its Georgian style Keep, is intriguing to explore.
The gorgeous Mexican island of Cozumel is renowned for its outstanding diving opportunities, beloved of celebrated oceanographer Jacques Cousteau.
First the geography – Roatán is one the three Bay Islands some 30 miles off the coast of Honduras and it’s about 30 miles long and two wide. Now what you really want to know – it’s got gorgeous beaches backed by tropical forests, sensational diving and snorkelling over the beautiful Belizean Reef and adventures like kayaking, horse riding and hiking the jungle trails.
Formerly British Honduras, Belize adjoins Guatemala and Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula. Its special pride is its superb nature reserves, rich in the tropical wildlife of reef, river and rainforest.
The birthplace of jazz, New Orleans is a great ‘Southern Belle' of a city. Enjoy the spectacular Creole cooking, the lacy balconied mansions of Vieux Carre and a ‘steam-wheeler' cruise down the Mississippi to Scarlet O'Hara country.
Key West is the furthermost point south on the US mainland and only 60 miles north of Cuba. Here where bohemians and artists reside in wooden houses amid lush tropical vegetation, is a religion for whom the term "laid back" might have originally been coined.
Famous for sea, sun and swaying palm trees, Miami is a young and trendy city which dazzles visitors with its subtropical climate and cosmopolitan lifestyle.
Located on the Atlantic, on Florida's Space Coast, and within minutes of a thrilling space shuttle launch for the luckiest of visitors. Take in the catch of the day at a local restaurant, or go inland to Florida's many theme park attractions.
