Today is spent at leisure among the fresh mountain air and beautiful tree-covered slopes of Shimla. One option is to take a trip to Kufri, where the sense of entering the elemental Himalayas really dawns. Although a resort with many amenities, visiting Kufri really feels like you are heading off the beaten track. From here, indulge in the luxury of a high-tea lunch in the opulent surroundings of Wildflower Hall.
Alternatively, take a leisurely stroll down Mall Road and the Ridge, the centre of Shimla's colonial town. Enjoy great views from Scandal Point - so named as it was once a popular place for people to gather and share gossip - before admiring the charming Children's Library and stately Christ Church. With classic British architecture, these buildings wouldn't look out of place around a peaceful English village green. In the afternoon, you could also make your way to Lakkar Bazaar, a long stretch of open-air stalls selling traditional woodwork and souvenirs. This evening, we regroup at our hotel for dinner. (B,D)

GATIMAAN EXPRESS | Running 188km from Delhi to Agra in a journey that takes just over an hour and a half, this was India's first semi-high-speed train. The Gatimaan Express first operated in early 2016. On board, you can relax in fully air-conditioned carriages, and enjoy the passing Indian scenery.
SHATABDI EXPRESS | The Shatabdi Express trains are some of the fastest in India and are the pride of Indian Railways. Fully air-conditioned and of a far superior standard to most Indian trains, the Shatabdi Express apparently always arrives at the station's best platform!
TOY TRAIN | The Himalayan Queen, affectionately referred to as the ‘Toy Train’ travels between the Indian town of Kalka and Shimla, capital city of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The Toy Train’s 60-mile narrow-gauge track through the Shivalik foothills of the Himalayas is one of three Indian mountain railways which together constitute a UNESCO World Heritage site. An extraordinary feat of railway engineering, the line negotiates 102 tunnels, more than 860 bridges and around 919 curves.
THE TAJ MAHAL | One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal is ubiquitously recognised as one of the world’s greatest landmarks and finest examples of Mughal architecture. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to admire Emperor Shah Jahan’s creation at sunrise. The close-up detail is as exquisite as the overall architectural design, with semi-precious stones and beautiful patterns adorning the marble surface.
RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK & TIGER SAFARI | Centered around the impressive 10th century Ranthambore Fort, Ranthambore National Park is scattered with old mosques, temples and hunting pavilions. The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the moment that you set eyes upon one of the regal Bengal tigers that live in the park – an experience that few get to have, and once had, very few forget. While on your guided safaris, look out for leopards, boars, hyenas, sloth bears and rhesus macaques, too.
