ROL Cruise team member, Haydn, reflects on his time aboard Cunard’s Queen Victoria
Published on 06 Feb 2026
I have just returned home from a journey aboard the iconic Queen Victoria. Sailing to Amsterdam and back, and it was nothing short of extraordinary - exactly what you would expect from a Cunard experience. The ship is a true testament to traditional cruising, and with four nights, there was so much to fit in, from the must-see Cunard insights to the daily afternoon tea. Below, I have detailed some of the many highlights from my time onboard:
Exclusive to Queen Victoria, the unique Winter Garden is the ideal stop for a midday drink. Located just off the pool deck, this light venue is a conservatory-style lounge, meaning no matter where you are in the world, you can look out and take in views of the destinations you’re sailing to.
At all times of the day, this venue serves as a place to relax, whether that’s reading a book, cosied up with a blanket, or watching a sports match with a couple of friends. Even by the evening, this venue was still very relaxed. On some evenings, you might enjoy live entertainment as you head to the bar, order your drink, and settle in.
Balcony cabin 4028 is where I called home for the four nights. I was lucky enough to be in one of the cabins which had an extended balcony, and whilst it may have been a cold November weekend, I could imagine the days in the Caribbean, sitting out on the balcony in the sun. If you’re looking for a larger balcony, I would definitely recommend this location.
The cabin was spacious, with plenty of storage space and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever stayed in.
My cabin steward, Ilyas, was incredible, greeting me on the first day and ensuring I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. He saw to my cabin twice a day, once in the morning and then again in the evening, for a turndown service.
A shore excursion is the best way to see the port of call you visit. We sailed the canals of Amsterdam, learning about the city connected by these waterways. Organised by Cunard, we didn’t have to travel far to meet our tour guide, where we would leave our larger ship for a small canal boat to travel more central. If you ever find yourself in Amsterdam, this is a must-do activity, definitely the best way to travel around the city.
