North Africa & the Red Sea will warm the heart, body and soul

Egypt is a traveller’s dream; the land that birthed one of the first great civilisations has remnants of this incredible period of history in abundance and exploring it is like walking through an outdoor museum. On a cruise to North Africa, you will experience as much fascinating history as you will modern hospitality. Egypt’s main attractions, of course, require little introduction. The Great Pyramid of Giza is an astounding sight to behold and is the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This is where you will also find the Giza pyramid complex and the Great Sphinx.

Alexandria, named by founder Alexander the Great, is Egypt’s doorway to the Mediterranean. The beautiful historic city has many ancient sites like the Catacombs of Kom ash-Suqqafa - likely to unearth your inner Indiana Jones! Plus the spectacular Fort Qaitbay, which stands on the site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria (a former Wonder of the Ancient World). Off-shore during your cruise to North Africa, don’t forget that the Red Sea is among the richest marine ecosystems in the world, with a number of world-renowned dive sites that are a must-see for any diving enthusiasts.

What to expect in Morocco and Jordan on your cruise to North Africa

In Morocco, you’ll find wonderful scenery, tantalising food and hospitable people. The landscapes are stunning too – from the Sahara to the High Atlas Mountains, there is so much to enjoy. The famous souks are the bustling marketplaces where you are expected to haggle for your wares – it’s only polite to give it a go! The beautiful riads with their quaint courtyards and fountains are a peaceful paradise where you can stay and relax.

Agadir sits on the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the more modern cities of the country, but it still retains a hint of its history. It has even built a replica medina (old town) to visit after the original was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960. During your cruise to the Red Sea and North Africa you can soak in an ornate hammam (public bath) for an afternoon, or lounge on one of the tranquil beaches for which the city is renowned.

Jordan is peaceful and welcoming. Renowned for their hospitality, Jordanians will go that extra mile to make you feel at home. Visit the Dead Sea, the lowest elevation on Earth, where the water’s special properties and high salt content mean that you can just lay back, relax and float away. Spend time with the desert-dwelling Bedouin and observe the stars.

Aqaba is Jordan’s only coastal city and it is an alluring stop for those wishing to experience this incredible culture on their cruises to North Africa. Visit the old town or, if possible, check out the Souk by the Sea, a street market that is held every Friday and aims to create opportunities for local people to showcase their products.
