The city of Chania is divided into two parts - the old town and the new town which coexist harmonically - each with their own charms. The old town however, is the beating heart of Chania and exudes true beauty with its cobbled streets, narrow alleyways and listed buildings from different eras - some of which have been transformed into restaurants or shops. Walking around such beautiful places you and your camera will be inseparable.

Take a leisurely walk to the Venetian Harbor and the lighthouse to capture some beautiful sunsets and admire the scenery. As you reach the old port you will see the tall Venetian walls built during the Byzantine era in Crete to protect the fortress of Kastelli, the hill firstly inhabited during the Neolithic period. Kastelli Hill has a long history dating back to the ancient Greek times and it is certainly worth a look.

Whilst sauntering the romantic streets of the old town, there are myriad museums vying for your attention. These include the Archeological Museum, the Byzantine Museum and the Naval Museum (Maritime Museum). All these museums have outstanding exhibitions and introductions to Chania’s history and progress throughout the years.

Last but not least comes the food and drink, because you are in Greece after all! The more you delve into Chania’s attractive network of backstreets, the more culinary gems you will unearth for yourself. The locals seem to gather at Antigoni’s, a traditional taverna with mainly local dishes and fresh catches of the day. Karnagio restaurant also boasts top quality seafood so don’t miss the chance to try it! Do not be surprised when the restaurants’ owners offer you some traditional raki to accompany your dinner; as you drink this homemade Cretan elixir bid the friendly locals a hearty “Opa!” and sit back and relax.
