Take to the streets at Grote Markt
At the centre of Nijmegen, you’ll find Grote Markt. Surrounded by beautiful architecture, restaurants spill out into the streets here and people sit drinking coffee and relaxing. In the shops around this area, you’ll find a range of vendors selling local produce and creations. Walk a little further out the North West corner of the square and you’ll soon find Saint Stephen’s Church soaring above the surrounding houses.
Visit the unique muZIEum
Nijmegen is home to an incredibly unique museum, muZIEum. Here, visitors can learn in more depth what it is like to be blind or partially sighted. muZIEum is an experience attraction and isn’t like a traditional museum, rather it asks you to put yourself in the place of someone experiencing sight loss and discover the exhibitions through different eyes. All of the tour guides are blind or partially sighted too, so you can talk to them about what it is like to live with sight loss.
Wander through Kronenburgerpark
Located not far from Grote Markt is Kronenburger Park. The most popular place in the city for those looking to surround themselves with nature, the gems of Kronenburger are the ponds and the Kruittoren. This large, turreted tower stands pride of place alongside a duck pond and is a wonderful feature of the park.
Visit the entrepreneurial hub at Honigcomplex
This ex-soup factory now plays host to a range of unique and interesting stalls. Filled with boutique restaurants and coffee shops, independent stalls and artists studios, there aren’t many places like the Honigcomplex. If you want to spend your time in Nijmegen relaxing and browsing the shops, then a trip to the Honigcomplex is a must.
