Rich in history, La Fortaleza is the oldest governor’s mansion in the western hemisphere; be sure to see the mahogany clock which stopped in time when the last Spanish governor of Puerto Rico struck it with his sword on his way out, heralding the last moment of Spanish rule in the New World.
Island of celebrity hideaways and posh bungalows, considered by many to be the most elite and glamorous of all the Caribbean isles, St. Barts is home to 22 incredible beaches. Anse de Flamanes presents camera-ready scenery, Baie de St-Jean serves up beachside bistros, and Anse de Grand Cul-de-Sac offers an array of watersports.
Volcanic in origin, this overseas region of France is a tropical paradise of stunning beaches and rain-forested mountains. Known as the “isle of flowers” to the indigenous Arawak, it is today renowned for its culinary offerings and remains ever-enchanting with colonial architecture and glorious gardens. Adding to its mystic allure is the still-smoldering Mount Pelée that erupted in 1902, wiping out the capital of St. Pierre (today in Fort-de-France), often called the Pompeii of the Caribbean.
Though technically located in the Atlantic Ocean, this popular Caribbean island is the most easterly of the Lesser Antilles archipelago and a Commonwealth realm.
The rich aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and other spices hovers over the fertile, volcanic hills of Grenada. Often called the Spice Island, Grenada has a lot more to offer then just spices. St. George's, the picturesque, small capital with terraces of pale, color-washed houses and cheerful red roofs, has long enjoyed the reputation of having the prettiest harbor in the Caribbean. Established in 1705 by French settlers, who called it Fort Royal, much of the town's present-day charm results from the blend of two colonial cultures, which are reflected in typical 18th-century French provincial houses and fine examples of English Georgian architecture. The mountainous interior rises from a generally rugged coast, which in part is blessed with dazzling white beaches. As the trade winds rustle palms on idyllic beaches, they carry hints of spice- nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla that entice you to discover the Spice Island.
From refreshing waterfalls and exhilarating water sports to elegant dining in Rodney Bay, St Lucia offers something for everyone.
