Today, transfer to Nagano. Your first stop will be the 7th century Zenkō-ji temple, before lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Jigokudani Monkey Park, home of the famous Japanese Snow Monkeys, where you will walk through the forested valley to the main pool where the monkeys bathe. Accustomed to humans, the monkeys can be observed from very close and almost completely ignore their human guests. After this amazing experience transfer to your Ryokan in Yudanaka where you will enjoy an Onsen hot spring bath and a traditional Japanese dinner (B, L, D)
After a traditional Japanese breakfast, visit Mt. Fuji, where your first stop will be Oishi Park, which offers great views (weather dependent). In case of bad weather, you will visit the Mt. Next, take the cable car up to the viewpoint on Mt. Komagatake where you can admire the amazing views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi (weather dependent). A city where you’ll find centuries-old culture jostling for position next to cutting-edge technology – a fabulous blend of history and modernity that has to be seen to be believed.
On clear days, particularly in winter, Mount Fuji (Fuji-san in Japanese) is visible from as far as Tokyo, 60 miles away. When Japan’s highest mountain is capped with snow, it’s a picture-postcard perfect volcanic cone. One of the best-known symbols of Japan, this iconic mountain has been considered sacred since ancient times and was even forbidden to women until the early 1900s.
Perched on a hillside overlooking the sea, Kobe is one of Japan's most attractive and cosmopolitan cities. Home of the heralded Kobe beef, this small city is easily navigated. Visit the Hatsukura Sake Brewery Museum for a tour or dine in one of the area’s incredible restaurants.
Visit Osaka Aquarium, one of the world's largest aquariums which has over 580 species of sea life on display, or Universal Studios Japan, the company’s first theme park outside of the U.S. Kyoto served as the nation’s capital for more than 1000 years, and is home to 17 different world heritage sites including Kiyomizudera Temple and Heian Jingu Shrine.
You’ll find there’s plenty to see and do in Kochi, the approachable, friendly capital city of Japan’s Kochi prefecture. Kochi is an outdoorist’s paradise, where Pacific beaches and mountain views are easily accessible for tourists and locals alike to explore. Quieter than Tokyo and more outdoorsy than Kobe, a Kochi cruise is the perfect way to see a more relaxed, traditional Japan. One of Kochi’s best-known sites is the historic Kochi Castle, which dates back to the 1600s, or you can venture to the Niyodo River for a tour along Japan’s clearest, most peaceful waters. Living like a local is the best way to experience Kochi. No rushing or speeding between excursions is necessary here. Shopping at Sunday Market is a must-do activity for weekenders looking to experience fresh produce and local goods in Kochi, plus there’s an entire shopping district along Harimayabashi Street where travelers can purchase clothing, handcrafted goods, and Japanese artwork. Take a break to see penguins and other marine species at the aquarium on Katsurahama Beach, then stop in at a restaurant to try the region’s signature katsuo no tataki, broiled bonito fish served with onion and garlic. While you’re on an Asia cruise, the small-town vibe of Kochi will make you feel right at home.
It is Busan's premier trading port, adjacent to the Korean Straits and Japan, that makes it an international metropolis but its beautiful sea vistas that make it a charming place to unwind. Experience the serenity of Beomeo-sa Temple, climb the Busan Tower in Yongdusan Park and rejuvenate at Hushimchung Spa.
Explore Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan from the base of Hakodate or fall in love with the city itself.
Aomori City is the capital of the Aomori prefecture, and by far one of Japan’s most underrated cities. Chock full of picturesque historic temples, museums, and close to incredible nature like Mt. Hakkoda, Aomori offers an off-the-beaten path take on Japan. Even though Aomori City has a population of over a quarter of a million, it still has that small-town sleepiness you’d be hard pressed to find in Tokyo or Kyoto. In the spring and summer, Aomori bursts to life with cherry blossom festivals and the Nebuta Festival every August. While you’re stopped here on an Asia cruise, don’t miss thought-provoking modern art exhibits at the Aomori Museum of Art, or a bird’s-eye view of the city from the observation deck of the ASPAM pyramid. Apple orchard tours and harborside strolls, local fish markets and dramatic ropeway rides to the top of Mt. Hakkoda are just a few of the offerings in Aomori for the adventurous outdoorist.

The Japanese macaque, better known as the Snow Monkey are named so because they live in areas where snow covers the ground for many months each year and can be distinguished by their red faces, brown-grey fur and short tails. During your tour, you’ll spend time at the Jigokudani Monkey Park, home to the famous snow monkeys. Here you’ll have the incredible opportunity to see wild monkeys bathing in a natural hot spring, known in Japan as an onsen, which enables them to stay warm in the cold and heavy snow of winter.
Mount Fuji
At 3,776 metres tall, the snowy cone of Mt. Fuji, notoriously shy and often cloud-bound, soars above Hakone National Park. The famous peak has inspired Japanese art and literature from 9th century poetry to the 19th century prints of Hiroshige.
