Cruises to Canada

The capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador has a rich, colourful history. St. John’s has oodles of old world charm, interesting architecture, historic landmarks, beautiful countryside and a cultural scene as fresh as the Atlantic. St. John’s first permanent settlers were the British in the mid-18th century, and North America’s oldest city has long been an exploration gateway to the Avalon Peninsula, Cape Spear and the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. To this day, St. John's is much-loved by visitors who arrive for the chance to see indigenous wildlife such as puffins, whales and other natural wonders. St. John’s jelly-bean-coloured houses line hilly streets, and the city is home to artists, musicians, and wonderful, cutting-edge eateries. The Downtown district typically offers the best food, pubs, entertainment and shopping, while Signal Hill, one of Canada's National Historic Sites, provides incredible views of the spectacular harbour and surrounding areas.

Havre St.Pierre, Quebec, Canada

Havre St. Pierre, Canada Tue 10 Oct 2023

Havre St.Pierre, Quebec, Canada

The traditional French-speaking town of Havre St Pierre on the Saint Lawrence River's north shore is a true expression of rural Canada. Known locally as Pointe-aux-Esquimau, this Quebec port was first settled by French-speaking American settlers, Acadians, and the quaint fishing and lumbering centre boasts pretty landscapes, charming little avenues plus an extensive heritage. The Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve is spread over 30 limestone islands and features over 1000 granite islets, reefs and stunning rock formations. This incredible land is home to an abundance of wildlife including whales, seals and puffins. Local fishing for snow crab, scallops and lobster is also popular.

Baie Comeau, Canada

Baie-Commeau, Quebec, Canada Wed 11 Oct 2023

Baie Comeau, Canada

Located on the banks of the beautiful Saint-Lawrence River, Baie-Comeau is one of Canada’s hidden gems built on history and heritage. The region's landscape has been shaped by glacial retreats and extraordinary natural phenomena – the immense Manicouagan crater is an extraordinary sight. Smothered with forests, this busy industrial city supplies Quebec with large quantities of hydroelectricity from the impressive Manicouagan Reservoir dam. Journeying further into the city centre, away from the busy port-side industries, a calm, peaceful city where quaint cafes and pretty theatres await. The delightful old-town district, known as Vieux-Poste, was established in 1889. Formerly the village of Saint-Eugène-de-Manicouagan, it boasts the oak-framed, stained-glass wonder of the Anglican church of St Andrew, and the pink-granited Sainte-Amélie Church.

Quebec

The cradle of French civilisation in the New World, Québec City is a living testimonial to the grace of Old Europe. With its steep cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and rich history, it won’t take you long to fall in love with this charming Canadian city.

Basilica Notre Dame Trois-Rivires, Canada

Trois Rivieres, Canada Fri 13 Oct 2023

Basilica Notre Dame Trois-Rivires, Canada

Despite being almost completely destroyed by fire in 1908, leaving barely any historic buildings or monuments, Trois-Rivières has blossomed into one of Quebec’s most exciting and cosmopolitan cities. From motor races to musicals, there is much to enjoy. Trois-Rivières’ museums celebrate Canada’s paper, flour milling and metal working industries: the harbour front Boréalis Museum traces the history of the local paper industry, and its underground vault reveals a mysterious trail and a forgotten world that is highly recommended by visitors. In contrast, the Promenade de la Poésie, punctuated with more than 300 panels displaying love poems, is a delightful walk. The city is a thriving cultural centre with cafés, bars, artists’ workshops, galleries and places to shop. There is the Quebec Museum of Folk Culture, and the 19th century Vieille Prison de Trois-Rivières is a haunted museum where tours are led by former inmates. The bustling Harbourfront Park has beautiful unobstructed views of the Saint-Laurent River as well as several stalls, terraces and restaurants.

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines FAQs

Do Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines have a Flexible Cancellation Policy?

If guests test positive within 14 days of departure they are to contact Fred. Olsen to discuss their booking and their options.

Fred. Olsen wants you to have complete peace of mind when booking a cruise with us. That's why all new bookings for cruises in 2022 come with their ‘no-risk deposit’ as standard.

This means you can move your deposit to any other cruise within 12 months of your original sailing - with no transfer fees. All you have to do is let us know before your final balance has been paid (or before your interim payment on a longer cruise).

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine to travel aboard a Fred. Olsen ship?

Yes, you will need to be fully vaccinated, including your booster dose, with the last date of your last dose administered at least ten days prior to sailing

For cruises departing in 2022 the following will apply:

  • Guests will need to book a PCR test (these cost approximately £99 per kit but we have a deal with BUPA which means Fred Olsen guests can get a discount with them to £77) they will then be given a reference code for the test which they will need to take with them as they will need that to complete their Passenger Locator Form.
  • All guests are required to do a lateral flow at home, prior to travelling to the port and are then required to take a lateral flow test again at the port.
  • Guests also are required to have a test carried out on board, 72 hours prior to arrival back to the UK at the end of their cruise – similar to the lateral flow test and this costs £10.00 charged to their on board account. Fred Olsen will provide the certified test and this is why guests are not able to bring their own (free) tests from home.
  • Guests will also have to have a smart phone or mobile device so that they can fill in the government’s Passenger Locator Form on disembarkation (they cannot travel without a smart phone or device that they can access their emails on).

What is included in my cruise fare?

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines offer incredible value via inclusive fares. The following will be included in the price of your cruise: comfortable cabins with tv, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and individually controlled air conditioning, tempting cuisine, self-service tea and coffee at selected venues, in-room sandwiches and snacks, evening entertainment, Captain’s Drinks Party and Gala Buffet, use of leisure facilities including pools and gym, a vast range of on board activities, all UK port taxes, luggage porterage at embarkation and disembarkation and flights (as part of fly-cruises).

Is there a dress code on board?

Yes, there is a dress code on board. Most evenings, your chosen ship will have a smart casual dress code. For men, trousers, chinos or smart dark jeans with a shirt or polo shirt are required. For ladies, outfits range from tailored trouser suits/casual separates to stylish dresses. Depending on the length of your chosen cruise, there may be one or more formal evenings. On these occasions, men wear either a dinner jacket or dark suit and tie while ladies may wear cocktail-style dresses or full-length ball gowns.

What dining options are available on board?

Upon arrival, you’ll find a Restaurant Seating Card in your cabin which will detail your evening dining time and allocated table number for the duration of your cruise. Dining times consist of two sittings; First Sitting (18:15) and Second Sitting (20:30). For guests on Freedom Fare, you will be offered the choice of your preferred slot at the time of booking, subject to availability. While guests on Saver Fares can select their dining time for a nominal supplement in advance of sailing. Informal open seating is offered to evening diners in Palms Café on Balmoral and Braemar. On selected evenings, The Grill restaurant offers premium speciality dining (for a small supplement) in exclusive indoor or al fresco locations. Here, expect to dine on succulent steaks and seafood as well as world cuisine inspired by the waters you sail in.

Are drinks packages available?

Yes, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines offer an All Inclusive Drinks Upgrade package. From only £24.99 per person, per night (£35 per person, per night on cruises of five nights or less and Speciality Sailings), you can enjoy selected white, red and rosé wine by the glass and selected house beers, house spirits and soft drinks all day, every day throughout your cruise. This package also extends to the restaurants on board where you can choose from a selection of soft drinks, a choice of wines by the glass and selected branded beers in cans.

What entertainment is available in the evenings?

Each evening you can enjoy a live show after dinner courtesy of resident and guest entertainers. From music to magic, cabaret to comedy, there’s so much to keep you entertained during your time on board - all you need to do is sit back and enjoy it all with your tipple of choice.

How do I pay for gratuities?

The amount (around £5 per person, per night) is not compulsory and can easily be altered by visiting Guest Services on board. You are welcome to tip personally if you prefer.
