After breakfast, it’s time to experience Longyearbyen. The town is perfect for exploring on foot. Stroll down the main street and you might see Svalbard reindeer saunter by. Although wild, they're curious and tame. In the afternoon board MS Spitsbergen and continue your Arctic discovery
Today discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund and neighbouring fjords such as Krossfjord and Kongsfjord. Be immersed in rugged, glacial scenery as we explore the fjords around Ny-Ålesund. Be ready for adventure; we’ll seize any opportunity to launch the small expedition boats, go ashore to hike or cruise by majestic glaciers.
Over the next three days, you'll explore the natural beauty and rugged tundra of Northwest Spitsbergen National Park. In this wilderness of steep mountains, stark glaciers and beautiful offshore islands, we’ll scan for animals of the Arctic – whales, seals, walruses and reindeer. If we’re really lucky, we might even see the elusive polar bear from the Observation Deck of the ship. In stunning Kongsfjord, you may see impressive glaciers calving into the sea.
During your time at sea, you’ll have six activities, one speciality restaurant, one complimentary restaurant, one bar and lounge, three relaxation and fitness venues and six essential venues to keep you occupied. Why not head to the Science Centre to learn more about the waters you’re sailing in?
Spitsbergen is the largest and only permanently populated island of the Svalbard archipelago in northern Norway. Constituting the westernmost bulk of the archipelago, it borders the Arctic Ocean, the Norwegian Sea, and the Greenland Sea.
Hornsund is a fjord on the western side of the southernmost tip of Spitsbergen island. The fjord's mouth faces west to the Greenland Sea, and is 12 kilometres wide. The length is 30 kilometres, the mean depth is 90 metres, and the maximal depth is 260 metres
Bellsund is a 20-kilometer long sound on the west coast of Spitsbergen, part of the Svalbard archipelago of Norway. It is separated from Van Mijenfjorden by the islands of Akseløya and Mariaholmen. Bellsund is located south of Nordenskiöld Land and north of Wedel Jarlsberg Land.
Nestled amidst the Arctic wilderness, Longyearbyen emerges as a beacon of resilience and adventure at the northernmost reaches of civilisation.
