Dining on board Spirit of Discovery
On board Spirit of Discovery you will have the choice of three main dining venues and two speciality restaurants, these include the Grand Dining Room, The Club by Jools Holland, The Grill, East to West and Coast to Coast. Whichever restaurant you choose to dine, you can also enjoy a house red, white, rosé and sparkling wine each mealtime at no extra charge.
The Grand Dining Room is a classic venue that will be the perfect spot if you’re seeking to indulge in authentic flavours from around the world, with a wealth the finest à la carte cuisine. With opening seating dining, you can eat here for breakfast, lunch and dinner without a reservation and can sit where you please. If you’re free in the afternoon you can even stop by for the grand afternoon tea, which is freshly prepared each day.
If you’re looking for a dining experience with a twist, take a trip to The Club by Jools a 1950’s style supper lounge which has been created in partnership with English music legend, Jools Holland. Here you can savour cocktails, indulge in fine cuisine such as Surf ‘n Turk whilst listening to live music. On select voyages, you can even witness Jools Holland and the band performing live.
For those seeking a casual dining experience, the Verandah and Grill is the perfect option offering a fine dining experience. Lunchtime will be offering a delicious buffet with a wide variety of options and in the evening you can enjoy freshly prepared dishes delivered directly to your table in a swift manner. You can also choose to dine al’fresco, making this the perfect venue to watch the sunset, or have a romantic meal under the stars. You can even witness a culinary theatre performance at the show kitchen, where you can watch your meal be created by one of the expertly skilled chefs.
For an evening infused with oriental delight, book a free reservation at East to West, an Asian inspired speciality restaurant located on the Promenade Deck. Here you can indulge in the flavours of the orient, where you can enjoy traditional authentic favourites, along with contemporary dishes with a twist, such as sizzling beef fillet in Balinese sauce and blackened tilapia with fennel. The menu here will be regularly changed, so you may have to come back for a second visit.
Alternatively, sample Spirit of Discovery’s second speciality restaurant, Coast to Coast, which is also located on the Promenade Deck. This succulent eatery offers the freshest flavours of the sea, serving British and locally sourced seafood. Coast to Coast will be a very first for Saga and it will be offering a modern seafood experience every evening on board, serving simple but fresh grilled fish to tantalising tartare and much more at no extra charge.
Entertainment on board
Life on board Spirit Discovery can be as action-packed or as peaceful as you like, with plenty of venues to visit for drinks, performances or to embrace the sea views in peace.
Like most Saga ships, you will find a beautifully decorated, large and fully-glazed observation lounge which will be known as the Britannia Lounge. You will never find a dull moment in this multi-purpose venue, with the day hosting inspiring guest speakers and spectacular scenery; and the evening transforming into a lively showroom with dancing and live performances. Each evening there will be two sets of entertainment, with singers, musicians and lecturers.
Day or evening, the ‘hub’ of Spirit Discovery will be the ‘Living Room’, which will be located on the Main deck. This vibrant venue will be the perfect spot to grab a coffee & pastry in the day; or unwind with a delicious after-dinner cocktail in the evening as it transforms into the champagne bar, which will be open until late.
To be dazzled after your post-dinner cocktail, head to stern of the ship on the Promenade deck for a visit to the ships very own theatre, the Playhouse. Housing raked seating for over 420-guests, this spectacular atrium will showcase spectacular and colourfully performances every evening, including live music, guest entertainers, cinema screenings and much more.
If you’re looking to partake in a game or two, head to the Lido or Sun deck, where you will find table tennis, deck games and an outdoor games area. Please be aware, these games are not tailored towards children and there are no children facilities/children clubs on board. Spirit of Discovery is for over 50’s only. If you’re aged between 40-50, you can travel as long as you are accompanied by someone who is over the age of 50.
If you visit E deck you will discover the card and craft room where you can spend your time at your own leisure away from the hustle and bustle in one of the free classes or workshops.
Relaxation on board
On board this spacious ship, there are plenty of areas to head to for peace and quiet or for the ultimate touch of relaxation.
Located on E deck you will find the exquisite Library, which will offer an extensive selection of fiction and reference books. The range of reading material you will find here will be perfect to read up on your next port-of-call if you haven’t done so already. You will also be able to browse the internet and get in touch with family and friends back home, to keep them up-to-date on your travels. If this spot was not idyllic enough already, you will also find the open kitchen area where you can help yourself to complimentary tea, coffee and homemade cake.
If you’re seeking the ultimate pamper experience, head to Spirit of Discovery’s serene spa located on the Main deck. This is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring ashore with an inviting hydrotherapy pool, steam room, infrared sauna and five private areas for a rejuvenating treatment. For those looking to kick-start the day with a workout, you will also find a cutting-edge gym, along with several classes such as Pilates, yoga and tai chi which will be all hosted by fully-trained fitness experts.
