A fairy tale-like kingdom just waiting to be explored

ROL Cruise recommends…

Enchantment awaits in Lisbon

Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital, Lisbon is something straight out of a storybook. Explore cobbled streets lined with colourful buildings that are sure to enchant you; take one of the city’s endearing yellow trams to top attractions such as a Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, a century-old monastery; and survey Lisbon from within the turrets of Castelo de São Jorge, one of Lisbon’s most symbolic landmarks.

Dine like a king in Porto

The foodie capital of Portugal, Porto boasts a stunning culinary history that is sure to whet your appetite. Feast on exquisite delicacies such as pastel de nata and Francesinha, a meat and cheese-filled sandwich in a tomato and beer sauce, before washing it down with the city’s world-renowned, native beverage, port. If you prefer a warming cup of coffee, espresso is widely drunk across the city, perfect for refuelling after a mooch around Porto’s traditional meat and produce markets.

Get lost in Pinhão’s countryside

Get away from all the hustle and bustle of Portugal’s lively cities and take some time out in the beautiful countryside of Pinhão, one of the hidden gems of the Douro River. Enclosed by stunning greenery and foliage, Pinhão is known for its wine and port, and a visit to surrounding vineyards is a must during your trip. Take part in wine tasting and grape stomping or take a train ride through the hills of Pinhão, marvelling at the miles of rustic countryside before you.

Explore Portugal through the ages

Thought to be the oldest city in Europe, Lisbon has an ancient history that is hard to beat. Dating back to 1200BC, this vibrant city has been home to the Neolithic Pre-Celtic tribes, the Phoenicians, Romans, and Moors. If you consider yourself to be a bit of a history buff, you’ll definitely want to visit Panteao Nacional, a church where important Portuguese personalities are buried; Praca do Comercio, one of the biggest squares in Europe; or venture out of the city to UNESCO world heritage site Sintra and the Quinta da Regaleira, a decadent gothic palace and gardens.
