Join Martin as he embarks on an epic adventure

Published on 10 Jan 2022

Martin Clunes Islands of the Pacific starts tonight on ITV! Martin, an actor, comedian, director and television presenter, embarks on an epic ocean wide adventure in search of the real Pacific in a new documentary series.

In episode 1, Martin’s journey begins in French Polynesia where he visits an estate where the owner is developing a new grape suited to the unique growing conditions of Tahiti and tastes the wine he produces. Martin then travels onto Rangiroa where, accompanied by a guide, he swims in the ‘aquarium’ in Rangiroa Lagoon before heading to Shark City to swim with blacktip reef sharks. “I’m not comfortable swimming with sharks but I’ll do it,” Martin admits. “It is great to see their faces and get over the demonisation of naughty sharks. They don’t bite me which is a huge bonus.”

Finally, Martin visits Tetiaroa, an atoll trying to improve its environment thanks to Hollywood star Marlon Brando. “Marlon Brando bought the island in 1966. He had a dream, and the dream was to fund environmental and scientific programmes by tourism. He was before his time in lots of things,” explains Frank Murphy, Executive Director of the Tetiaroa Society.
