Which cruise lines offer photography classes?

Learn everything you need to know about capturing the perfect shot

Published on 17 Aug 2026

Every year on 19th August, World Photography Day celebrates the power of photography to capture memories, tell stories and inspire creativity. There's perhaps no better place to put those skills into practice than on a cruise, where ever-changing coastlines, incredible wildlife and iconic landmarks provide endless opportunities for memorable photographs. Better still, some cruise lines offer dedicated photography classes, workshops and expert tuition on board, helping you improve your technique while you travel. Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or looking to refine your skills, here are the cruise lines that offer photography classes at sea.

Silversea

On board Silver Cloud and Silver Wind, aspiring photographers can develop their skills in the dedicated Photo Studio, a creative space designed for both beginners and experienced photographers. Guided by an onboard Photo Manager, you’ll learn practical techniques for capturing stunning travel images. Sessions often cover image editing using industry-leading software such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, helping you refine your photographs long after you’ve taken them. The studio is equipped with modern Mac and PC workstations, giving you the opportunity to edit your images before printing them in a range of formats, from postcards to large panoramic and A2 prints.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises’ LYNC Digital Center hosts a variety of photography and videography sessions designed to help guests capture every moment of their voyage. The classes introduce the key principles of travel photography, covering topics such as composition, lighting, focus and exposure to help you feel more confident and take creative photos. Guests can also explore smartphone-specific features, including portrait mode, panorama settings and colour adjustments, alongside more camera techniques involving aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Selected sessions focus on travel videography, explaining how to film smooth, engaging footage, while others offer useful advice on editing and sharing your photos and videos on social media. It’s a practical way to improve your photography skills while documenting the unforgettable destinations you visit. The LYNC Digital Center is available on sailings aboard Vista, Allura, Riviera, Marina, and Sonata

Seabourn

Available on selected expedition voyages aboard Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, the Image Masters Photography Masterclass is an immersive programme designed for guests who want to take their travel photography to the next level. Led by an experienced nature photographer, the masterclass combines practical, in-the-field tuition with expert guidance on composition, camera techniques, editing and retouching, helping you capture extraordinary moments in some of the world’s most remote destinations. As availability is limited, participants benefit from a more personalised learning experience throughout the voyage. Enrolled guests enjoy exclusive access to a range of photography-focused experiences, including photographer-led Zodiac excursions and guided walks, where you’ll receive advice on finding the best angles, lighting and compositions while out exploring. The programme also features in-depth workshops and lectures covering everything from camera settings and visual storytelling to destination-specific photography tips, alongside one-to-one mentoring sessions tailored to your individual goals. Dedicated editing sessions help you refine your images with the option of receiving expert feedback, while exclusive hosted dinners and group activities create opportunities to share techniques, exchange ideas and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts throughout the voyage.

More ways to embrace photography at sea

Photography lectures

Even if your cruise doesn’t include dedicated photography classes, you may still have the opportunity to learn from experienced photographers. Some cruise lines invite guest speakers, wildlife experts or expedition photographers to host talks covering subjects such as camera techniques, photographing wildlife, landscape composition and destination-specific photography tips. These sessions can help you prepare before heading ashore and offer useful advice for making the most of your camera throughout your voyage.

Make the most of professional photography services

If you’d rather be in front of the camera than behind it, most cruise lines offer professional photography services on board. Experienced photographers are available to capture everything from elegant formal night portraits to relaxed family photographs and destination backdrops. Images can usually be viewed during your cruise and purchased individually, allowing you to take home professionally captured memories of your holiday without any obligation to buy.

Art galleries and photography exhibitions

Many cruise ships feature onboard art galleries where you can admire a wide variety of artwork, including photography, contemporary pieces and limited-edition prints. While the collections vary between cruise lines, browsing these galleries can provide inspiration for your own photography while introducing you to different artistic styles and techniques. Some ships also host art talks, exhibitions or auctions, offering another opportunity to appreciate visual storytelling during your time at sea.
