Which cruise ships have vegetarian restaurants?

In celebration of World Vegetarian Day, we’re shining a light on the ships leading the way

Published on 01 Oct 2025

Finding delicious vegetarian food while on holiday used to mean settling for the odd meat-free option, but times have changed - and the cruise industry is keeping pace. Today, more and more ships are recognising the demand for plant-based dining, with creative menus and even entire restaurants devoted to vegetarian and vegan cuisine.

In celebration of World Vegetarian Day, we’re shining a light on the ships and lines leading the way. While most cruise lines now offer generous vegetarian menus across their fleets, two of our trusted cruise partners have gone a step further. P&O Cruises’ Arvia and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Aqua each feature their own dedicated vegetarian restaurants, raising the bar for meat-free dining at sea.

In this blog, we take a closer look at these pioneering venues, as well as highlight the cruise lines leading the way with thoughtful vegetarian menus.

Which cruise ships have dedicated vegetarian restaurants?

Arvia

P&O Cruises

On ArviaGreen & Co featuring Mizuhana offers a fresh approach to plant-led dining at sea.

As a speciality restaurant, it goes far beyond token vegetarian options and instead puts bold, creative dishes centre stage. The menu changes with the seasons, but you can expect an array of small plates and sharers, from cauliflower tempura and sweet potato pakoras to rainbow tortilla stacks layered with cashew cheese and avocado. Larger mains showcase the kitchen’s flair, with standouts such as a spice chakalaka Wellington wrapped in golden pastry or miso-glazed celeriac fondant served with truffle jus. Even the desserts are thoughtfully crafted, with combinations like blackcurrant gel with pear sorbet or a playful chocolate earth plate that looks almost too pretty to eat.

The restaurant itself feels chic yet relaxed, with the option to sit at Mizuhana’s sushi bar and watch chefs at work or enjoy a table with ocean views. Service is polished and knowledgeable, with staff happy to guide you through dishes and offer recommendations.

While there is a modest supplement to dine here, Green & Co featuring Mizuhana more than justifies it, having been named Best Fine Dining - Large Ship at the 2023 Cruise Ship Interiors Awards. For vegetarians and vegans in particular, it’s a highlight of the ship.

You can find Green & Co featuring Mizuhana on Deck 8 of Arvia.

Norwegian Aqua

Norwegian Cruise Line

When Norwegian Aqua set sail in 2025, it brought with it something completely new for Norwegian Cruise LinePlanterie, the brand’s first dedicated vegetarian and plant-based restaurant.

Located within the Indulge Food Hall, Planterie is designed to prove that plant-led cuisine can be just as flavourful, colourful and satisfying as any other dining experience at sea. The menu focuses on vibrant bowls and wholesome dishes. Expect combinations like a Mediterranean-style bowl with roasted vegetables, tabbouleh and lemony dressings, or a smoky Southwest-inspired creation with spiced tempeh, grains and beans. Fresh herbs, bright sauces and inventive toppings ensure every dish bursts with flavour.

Because it sits inside the Indulge Food Hall, the atmosphere is more casual and sociable than a formal restaurant, with a choice of indoor and outdoor seating so you can enjoy your meal with sweeping sea views. Diners can also combine a plant-based dish from Planterie with options from other food stations in the hall, making it a flexible, mix-and-match experience.

Planterie is in the Indulge Food Hall on Deck 8 of Norwegian Aqua.

While dedicated vegetarian restaurants at sea are still rare, many cruise lines now offer dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus across their fleets.

These menus go far beyond the token “meat-free option” of the past, providing thoughtfully designed dishes and full meal choices so that vegetarian travellers can enjoy the same variety and quality as everyone else onboard.

  • Celebrity Cruises offers a separate vegetarian menu in the main dining room at lunch and dinner, with dishes clearly labelled across other venues, too. On Edge Series ships, guests can also enjoy a plant-based tasting menu in Eden, showcasing fine-dining style courses.
  • Each of Cunard’s Queens features dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus in the main dining rooms, with plant-based options available at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dishes range from hearty comfort food to refined fine dining, and staff are trained to adapt menus further if requested.
  • Holland America Line has long been ahead in catering to special diets, offering dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus in its main dining rooms. Guests will find a wide variety of meat-free starters, mains and desserts, along with vegetarian options featured across its speciality restaurants.
  • Known as the cruise line for foodies, Oceania Cruises offers one of the most extensive vegan and vegetarian programmes at sea. Every ship carries full vegan menus in the Grand Dining Room, along with hundreds of plant-based dishes available throughout the fleet’s restaurants, including raw, dairy-free and gluten-free creations.
  • Princess Cruises recently rolled out expansive vegan menus across the fleet, offering a rotating seven-day programme in the main dining rooms. Menus include multiple starters, mains and desserts each day, with dishes that focus on fresh ingredients and international flavours.
  • Royal Caribbean International introduced a separate vegan menu in the main dining room, available nightly alongside a wide selection of vegetarian options. With international cuisine central to Royal Caribbean’s dining, vegetarian travellers can enjoy a global range of dishes, from Indian curries to Mediterranean salads.
  • Silversea offers vegetarian and vegan menus on request across its fleet, with menus that emphasise fresh, seasonal produce and elegant presentation. On newer ships such as Silver Nova, the line has expanded its plant-based options even further, ensuring guests always have a generous choice of meat-free dishes at every meal.
