An old town with a romantic vista

A labyrinth of medieval cobblestone streets

The cobblestone streets that have paved the way for traders and locals for centuries are rife with history and stories to tell. Since being made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993, the preservation of the half-timbered houses has commenced, encapsulating the beauty of this city for years to come.

A cathedral of great importance

Founded and instructed by Holy Roman Emperor Henry II at the start of the 11th-century, Bamberg Cathedral still remains a focal point in the city’s life day-to-day. Containing priceless works of art and timely architecture, Bamberg Cathedral is a spectacle of symmetry and a western gothic presence. When planning your visit, make time to see the tomb of Henry II and his wife which lies at the end of the cathedral.

A beer brewing stronghold

Well known across Germany and further, the beer that is brewed in Bamberg is second to none. With eleven breweries in the city centre and another 60 in the surrounding county, there are over 400 different beer brands that leave this region on a yearly basis. Get a taste of the real deal and enjoy a tour around one of the many breweries or learn about the history of the craft in the Franconian Brewery Museum.

A rose-covered garden

Behind the Neue Residenz palace lies a hidden rose garden. Beginning life as a renaissance garden in the 1730s, today you can meander through the troves of regimented flowerbeds that house almost 4,600 roses. Whilst exploring, take note of the many statues that line the beds and glance at the ringed fountain that is surrounded by benches perfect for a spot of reflection.
