A university city with a lot to give

ROL Cruise recommends…

Sit in the sun at Luisenpark

It needn’t only be local students who enjoy Luisenpark, with ample cafes and restaurants, gondolas and even penguins, there is plenty to do in Luisenpark. Perfect for families but also a great visit for other types of traveller, there is nothing better than a sunny day in the stunning German park.

A city built around a water tower

At the centre of most historical cities you’ll likely find a cathedral or church, however, in Mannheim you’ll find something more peculiar. The square in the centre of town features at its core a 60-foot tall Romanesque water tower. The crowning glory of the city, this copper-topped icon is perfectly framed by the surrounding parks and fountain.

The City of Squares

Some cities are famous for their layouts, Paris with its circular roads, London with its neighbourhoods and the Thames flowing through the centre and Mannheim is a city on this list. Known as The City of Squares, the very centre of this city is built like a chessboard. In fact, some people say that the layout of Manhattan was based on Mannheim!

Explore the stars in Mannheim

For those who are intrigued by a world even wider than our own, a visit to the Planetarium in Mannheim is a must. Watch a variety of astronomical shows (available in both German and English) to learn about everything from the Big Bang to the Aurora Borealis.
