Bavarian history and festive culture

ROL Cruise recommends…

Witness beautiful Bavarian architecture

The best place in the city is no doubt Altstadt (old town) where the Pegnitz river weaves between brown-brick buildings built in a traditional style. Just wandering through these streets will give you a feeling of how Nuremberg started off and you’ll be sure to find photo opportunities around every corner of these cobbled streets.

Drink world-renowned German beer

Germany is known worldwide for its beer, and in Nuremberg, it runs dark and it runs aplenty. The city’s signature beer is a rich blend known as Rotbier (Red Beer) due to its colouring. The flavouring is sweet and malty, and it pairs perfectly with local delicacies at dinner time. For any beer lover, a brewery tour is a must whilst here to learn more about their signature brew.

Experience amazing Christmas markets

Whether you want to sample glühwein or pick up some gifts, if the Christmas market is on whilst you are in Nuremberg it’s a must-visit. Weave between the stalls and small a mix of traditional foods being cooked. Pick up a glass of glühwein and a bratwurst whilst you browse and then spend your time inspecting the wares and buying gifts for your loved ones (and yourself!)

Learn more about Germany’s dark past

History lovers will know the part that Nuremberg played in Germany’s fierce past. The Nuremberg Rally was the annual rally of the Nazi Party held in Germany and took place in the city in 15 consecutive years. In order to house such meetings, the Reichsparteigelande was constructed, and today it still stands in the South East of the city centre. Visit here to walk the walls of the building and learn more about how it was used as a key part of history.
