A peaceful and quaint town

ROL Cruise recommends…

The home to provincial wine

Pinhao, a small, sleepy and quaint town in the Portuguese countryside is one of the finest producers of Port wine in the world. With ideal climates for grape growing and the production of wine, it’s held in high regard for its authentic and smooth tasting beverages. Visit the vineyards where these sought after grapes are grown and learn all about the process before tasting the goods for yourself. There is always a wine tour available from the town centre for those looking to learn more.

A sea of blue and white

A visit to Pinhao Train Station will lead you to a sea of blue and white. Created in 1937 the gorgeous blue and white tiles seen in the station hallways are Azulejo tiles and depict a selection of traditional Portuguese scenes, they are the perfect spot for a picture or two before jumping on the local train, it’s well worth a visit if you’re nearby.

Climb to the top of Portugal

A trip to Pinhao isn’t complete without a trek to the top of Double Viewpoint De Loivos. A hill situated on the outskirts of the town, a climb to the top of this impressive rise will give you the ultimate viewpoint over the valley below. Watch as river cruises sail past and gaze at the extensive grape fields lying beneath. The top of the hill is the ideal location for watching the sunset on a warm summers evening.

A walkers paradise

Pinhao is a walking lovers paradise and the Douro Valley is the perfect setting for a day of exploration. Wind along the Douro River keeping an eye out for famous Port making fields as you go. The flat landscapes make it an easy location for travellers of all ages, whether you’re planning to stay along the river or venture out of the town.
