A location where wildlife can thrive

ROL Cruise recommends…

Famous for its freshwater fish

Known for being a local fishing port, Kodiak is world famous for its freshwater fish, flora and fauna where brown bears roam, wild eagles swoop and moose wander. Sacred among the local people for its outstanding beauty and wonderful, natural location. Situated on the Chiniak Bay, if you’re planning to visit Alaska, Kodiak should be on your list.

A plethora of paths

With 100 miles of paved roads perfect for those wishing to explore the local area, Kodiak is not short of outstanding walks. Explore the national wildlife park, wander through diverse habitats and scale rugged mountains and vast meadows for a real sense of Alaskan life. Isolated beaches, secluded camping spots and coastal scenery can all be expected on a walking excursion through Kodiak.

Never a dull day

No two days will be the same in Kodiak, with a variety of festivals, museums and events to get involved in, you’re not going to be short of fabulous entertainment. Baranov museum, the maritime museum and the military history centre can give you a glimpse of age-old traditions and memories the location holds dear. The crab festival and the rodeo state fair are hosted every year as the town bursts into celebration.

Wildlife like no other

A visit to Kodiak isn’t complete without a day of bear watching. Tour operators take bear-spotters on half-day tours to see the amazing creatures in their natural habitat. Second largest bear to the polar bear, the chance to see such magnificent animals in their home territory are few and far between.
