View Cruise DealShanghai is a city of extraordinary contrasts. On one side of the river, gleaming skyscrapers form one of the world’s most futuristic skylines. On the other side, tree-lined streets, Art Deco buildings and ancient temples offer a window into its rich past. As China’s largest city and a global hub of culture and commerce, Shanghai brims with energy, elegance, and endless things to explore.
The Bund is Shanghai’s most famous waterfront promenade and a must-visit for any traveller. Running along the western bank of the Huangpu River, this historic stretch is lined with grand colonial-era buildings that once housed foreign banks and trading houses during the city’s 1920s heyday. With its neo-classical and Art Deco architecture, it feels like stepping into a different era. As you walk along the promenade, you’ll be treated to some of the best views in the city. Across the river lies Pudong, home to the futuristic skyline that includes the Shanghai Tower and Oriental Pearl TV Tower – a dramatic contrast to the historical buildings behind you. The view is impressive by day but truly magical at night, when both sides of the river light up in a dazzling display. For a different perspective, take a river cruise at sunset.
Tucked away in the heart of the Old City, Yuyuan Garden is a tranquil haven that showcases the grace and elegance of traditional Chinese garden design. Originally created in the 16th century by a wealthy official as a peaceful retreat for his parents, the garden is a masterpiece of harmony and balance. Wander through a series of picturesque pavilions, koi-filled ponds, and zigzagging bridges, each element carefully placed to create moments of beauty and reflection. The garden’s rockeries and ancient trees offer shade and serenity, while intricately carved wooden panels and tiled roofs transport you to a different time. Outside the garden is the lively Yuyuan Bazaar, a bustling area packed with souvenir shops, snack stalls, and teahouses. It’s a great place to try some traditional Shanghai street food, such as steamed dumplings or sweet sticky rice cakes, or to sip a cup of Chinese tea and soak up the atmosphere.
Shanghai is known for its soaring skyscrapers, and none reach higher than the Shanghai Tower. Standing at an incredible 632 metres, it’s the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. The observation deck on the 118th floor offers an unrivalled view of the city – it’s like floating above the clouds. The high-speed lift whisks you to the top in under a minute, and once there, you’ll enjoy 360-degree views stretching far beyond the city centre. On a clear day, you can see the curve of the Huangpu River winding through the city, and at night, the lights below look like a sea of stars. More than just a viewpoint, Shanghai Tower is a symbol of the city’s ambition and innovation. Its twisting, aerodynamic design is both striking and sustainable, housing offices, hotels, and shops.
