The capital and administrative centre of the Orkney Islands, set on the principal island known as Mainland. The Orkneys comprise 70 or so islands, rocks and skerries that cover an area of 376 square miles. Having cruised around the northern tip of the British Isles, you reach Stornoway, the only town on Lewis, the most northerly of the Outer Hebrides. This history-rich outpost offers a tremendous diversity of interests including the pre-historic Callanish Standing Stones, fabulous coastlines, beaches and wildlife.

Take a trip on the Mull Railway or visit tiny traffic-free Iona, where St Columba first brought Christianity in 563 AD.
The famous Irish hospitality and, indeed, the ‘craic’ can be well and truly found in Belfast, the riverside capital of Northern Ireland.
Head to the Irish capital to see some of the world's finest Georgian buildings, to enjoy the freshest pint of Guinness from a rooftop bar, and to learn about the many great writers who once called this charming city home.
