Follow in the footsteps of the world’s greatest explorers as you wind your way through Lisbon’s cobblestone streets. Take in the tree-lined squares, ancient castles and colourful cityscape of Portugal’s capital city.
Oporto brings together the best of Portugal: warm sunshine, a relaxed riverside setting, grand churches, winding medieval streets, and courtyards filled with geraniums. Perhaps what Oporto is most famous for, however, is its port wine. Crafted in the neighboring Vila Nova da Gaia district, ports from all over the region can be sampled in the lodges just across the river. Wander through historic Ribeira, the recently restored riverside district and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located in the province of A Coruna in Galicia – a unique region with its own language and culture on the Atlantic shores of northwest Spain, Ferrol is a prime gateway to Santiago de Compostela, a pilgrimage site for thousands every year. The coastline in this part of the world is known for its cliffs and beaches and seafood. Ferrol’s charm as an old-world fishing village lives on in its streets and traditions.
With its must-see architecture and mouth-watering eateries, cultural Bilbao is a far cry from its industrial roots.
Bordeaux is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it offers everything from breathtaking views and picturesque locations, to incredible museums and churches. Its current shape and form with the classical and neoclassical buildings was heavily influenced by the Age of Enlightenment during the 18th century.
Closer to France but staunchly British, charming Guernsey boasts a diverse culture reflecting the best of both worlds. Pastel-colored houses rise layer upon layer behind St. Peter Port, the island's picturesque main town. Beyond, you’ll discover a wealth of activities centering around goldsmiths, silversmiths, wood carvers and clockmakers.
Occupying a strategic position between La Hague and Vale de Saire, Cherbourg has long been a territory disputed between the English and the French. And despite the two countries’ unity to defend the Continent against the Nazis, the port fell to German forces in 1940. Rebuilt and revitalized, Cherbourg today is a cultural treasure, enjoyed for its open-air markets, sparkling waterfront, fine museums and interesting boutiques.
Le Havre, translated to English as 'the harbour', was established in 1517 by King Francis I. It has long been the port of choice for mariners and international traders thanks to its prime location.
