Tarragona is located on Spain's beautiful Costa Dorada, and situated just 60 miles south-west of Barcelona. It's a destination renowned for stunning beaches, which boast golden sands and crystal clear waters that bask in the warm Mediterranean sun. Besides its spectacular, beach-laden coastline, the effervescent port city of Tarragona offers a wealth of delights to discover within its charming ancient heart. A collection of lively bars, restaurants and trendy cafés offer up a taste of authentic modern Spanish life, while ruins of Spain's second-most important Roman site and a number of fantastic museums, centuries-old treasures and architectural highlights offer a glimpse into a fascinating history too. Tarragona's many highlights include the magnificent Cathedral, which features a glorious mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles, and overlooks the city from its highest point; the 2nd century Roman amphitheatre; and the Roman circus, considered one of the best-preserved circuses in Europe. Las Rambla Nova, Tarragona's main street, makes for a perfect place to stroll, combining the beauty and diversity of unique historic architecture with the modernity of high-end shopping and fine dining.

Today Spain's major commercial port and naval base, Cartagena lies on the coast of Murcia, its great indented bay guarded by rocky promontories, each topped by a fort. Founded in 221 BC by Hasdrubal, leader of the Carthaginians (hence the name) from North Africa, it has a fascinating history - and as Nova Carthage was long the Romans' principal settlement in their Iberian stronghold. Attractive promenades extend along the harbour, while to the northeast is the famous beach and watersports resort area of the lagoon-like Mar Menor.

Delight in the Joy of the Journey

With Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, the journey is every bit as important as the destination. Which is why they’ve created five unique on board Signature Experiences. Each one encapsulates what is special about a Fred. Olsen cruise and ensures that those who love to travel get the most out of their journey and the destinations they visit.

Joy of the Journey Guides

The Journey Guides will host talks, presentations and private lunches, and are available to anyone who wishes to find out more about their journey. And please don’t worry, if sitting and relaxing is what you are on the cruise to do, that’s fine too. You will find our Journey Guide – including a Nature Guide, Culture Guide, Entertainment Host and Maritime Guide – on board every Fred. Olsen ship to entertain and inspire, with their insights and stories.

The Sky at Sea

The Sky at Sea

There is nothing quite like a sunrise at sea or looking up at the beauty of the night sky from the deck of a ship. On clear nights we host stargazing experiences where you can sit back on the open deck, snuggled in a blanket with a hot chocolate or a toddy, and listen to our experts, as we bring the night sky to life.

The Ship and the Sea

Fred. Olsen’s behind-the scenes The Ship and the Sea experiences reflect that maritime is in their DNA. Join insightful ‘Audience with…’ interviews with key members of the crew and find out what it takes to sail a cruise ship

Treats of the Region

Come and enjoy the Treats of the Region sessions where you can meet chefs who will show you how to prepare local dishes from the destinations you are visiting. And the best part? Each one ends with a chance to sample the creation!

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines FAQs

Do Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines have a Flexible Cancellation Policy?

If guests test positive within 14 days of departure they are to contact Fred. Olsen to discuss their booking and their options.

Fred. Olsen wants you to have complete peace of mind when booking a cruise with us. That's why all new bookings for cruises in 2022 come with their ‘no-risk deposit’ as standard.

This means you can move your deposit to any other cruise within 12 months of your original sailing - with no transfer fees. All you have to do is let us know before your final balance has been paid (or before your interim payment on a longer cruise).

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine to travel aboard a Fred. Olsen ship?

Yes, you will need to be fully vaccinated, including your booster dose, with the last date of your last dose administered at least ten days prior to sailing.

  • Guests aged 12 and over are required to be fully vaccinated, including a booster dose. Your booster dose must be administered at least 7 days prior to embarkation.
  • Children aged 12 and over will be required to have both of their vaccinations, with the last administered date a minimum of 14 days prior to embarkation
  • If more than 9 months have passed since the second dose, a booster vaccine will be required at least 7 days prior to embarkation.
  • If you have had your second dose less than three months before your cruise departs, you will not need a booster dose. Your last administered date will need to be at least 14 days prior to embarkation.

Pre-boarding & Testing Requirements

  • At embarkation, guests will be required to provide proof of full vaccination status. This can be provided in digital and non-digital form. The NHS has a mobile app that shows your vaccination status. Fred. Olsen will accept this as proof of your vaccinations. For those who do not have a SMART phone, this can be printed out from the NHS website OR you can call 119 and request a paper version. Please note some destinations will require a QR code only. This will be highlighted prior to travel in your pre-departure information. A digital QR code is only valid for 28 days.
  • All guests are required to take their own Lateral Flow Test at home within 24 hours of the departure date of the cruise and bring the proof of a negative test result to show at check-in. Accepted proof is the test cassette showing a negative test result or an email, letter or text confirmation from the test kit provider confirming a negative test result.
  • Lateral Flow Test kits are readily available at most high street chemists and online. You can also order a Lateral Flow Test via our test kit partner Bupa at https://bupatesting.everythinggeneticltd.co.uk/index.php and record your result at https://my.everythinggeneticltd.co.uk/self_reporting
  • If you arrive at the port without confirmation of a negative result, you will be asked to complete a test at the terminal, which will result in a delay at check-in. Testing at the terminal will be charged at £25 per test and will be added to your on board account.
  • A small number of guests will be randomly re-tested at check-in. These guests will not be required to pay for their tests and their testing will be prioritised.
