When it was finally completed in 1914, the "Greatest shortcut on earth" shaved nearly 8000 miles off the journey between Americas East coast and West.
During the 52 mile transit, you'll experience the man-made wonder of the canal, itself, an engineering marvel of dams, locks and lakes, but there's also the natural splendour that accompanies your crossing- a lush, virgin rain forest on either side.
The Canal runs through two National Parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Portobelo and San Lorenzo. Linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans - it's an integral part of any Central American voyage.
Easter Island is the world's most remote inhabited island, famous for its strange monolithic statues. The first settlers arrived on the island in the 4th century, presumably by accident, from Polynesia. They remained relatively isolated over a long period, living in a hierarchically arranged society that was governed by a king.
Religious rites centred on the cult of ancestors represented by monolithic stone statuary, The Moai. When the island was discovered on Easter Sunday in 1722 by Jakob Roggeveen of the Dutch West India Company, the local society was already in decline due to violent social conflicts. Once divided into tribal territories, each sub-tribe, or family, occupied their own ceremonial site and erected a moai. Nearly 900 were created at the great sculpture workshop in a quarry on the rocky slopes of the Ranu Raraku volcano. Roughly half of these intriguing statues are scattered across the island's volcanic landscape. Exactly how these huge, eerie-looking stone figures were transported miles from the quarry remains a mystery.
