A historical city with geographical significance

ROL Cruise recommends…

Visit the waters-meet at Deutsches Eck

German Corner, Deutsches Eck, is the ideal place to view the meeting of the Rhine and Mosel rivers. Witness where the darker waters of the Mosel blend with the Rhine and cause a unique and beautiful marvel. On the shore, you’ll see the Memorial of German Unity, an impressive statue that guards over Deutsches Eck. Make sure you also explore behind the memorial, as you can see some well-preserved standing fragments of the Berlin Wall.

Enjoy the majestic grounds of the Electoral Palace

The Electoral Palace is a sprawling and regal complex overlooking the riverside. Surrounding the extraordinary palace are beautifully landscaped and maintained gardens, most of which are open to the public. The palace has had some notable residents in the past, including the Prussian Crown Prince and Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Get a view above the city on the Koblenz cable car

The Koblenz Seilbahn (cable car) allows users to enjoy spectacular views over the Rhine and Mosel rivers, as well as the city below. The base is only a short walk south of Deutsches Eck and takes travellers across the river and up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Connecting arguably two of the best viewpoints in town, this is a must for everyone in Koblenz.

Journey south to Marksburg Castle

In the very south of the city is Marksburg Castle. Built in 1117 AD, it is the only Rhine castle that has never been destroyed. Because of this, it’s a really unique historical attraction that has a lot to teach visitors about the history of the surrounding Rhineland and Germany. With stunning white turrets and standing high up on a hilltop, when you first lay eyes on the castle you’ll feel like you’re in a fairy tale.
