One of Japan’s most beautiful cities

ROL Cruise recommends…

Tour a sake brewery

Kobe is famous for its sake, which is a type of Japanese rice wine made with water from the mountains. Visit the main tourist information office to get a map which shows all breweries which are dotted around the city. Many of the breweries offer guided tours to explain the history of sake as well as giving visitors the chance to sample some of the blends available.

Discover the city’s rich history

Kobe is home to many museums which pay homage to its rich and varied past. From visiting UNESCO World Heritage Site Himeji Castle to the sacred Ikuta Shrine in the heart of the city, and the colourful Nunobiki Herb Garden, you are sure to walk away with a deep appreciation for Kobe’s history.

Indulge in the tranquil surroundings at Nunobiki Falls

A peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city awaits at the Nunobiki Falls. The beautiful hiking track boasts a truly hidden oasis away from the fast-paced city centre. There are plenty of seating areas up to the pathways so you can relax and immerse yourself in the powerful sights and sounds of nature. Throughout the ages, Japanese artists and poets have taken inspiration from the glorious natural attractions, and if you look closely, you can even find some inscribed stone tablets; an ode to the waterfalls.

Take in the sights and sounds of Nankinmachi

Walking around the city will work up quite an appetite, which is why a visit to Nankinmachi, which is a compact Chinatown located in central Kobe, should be on your must-do list. Nankinmachi is a popular tourist, shopping and dining area. The district is packed with shops, restaurants and food stands which sell popular items such as steamed buns, noodles and tapioca-based beverages.
