Upon arrival, transfer to the Nayara Hangaroa (formerly Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa) for your three night stay.
Just south of the Tropic of Capricorn, Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, lies 3,790 kilometres to the west of Chile. Extraordinarily remote, this island was first inhabited by Polynesians who are believed to have arrived by sea about 1,200 years ago. The island is 24 km long, with three extinct volcanic craters, and half of the area is a National Park. The island is best known as the site of more than 600 stone statues, or Moai, which stand up to nine metres in height. The statues were carved in the spectacular Rano Raraku quarry and were then believed to have been transported on wooden rollers to their destinations. It is thought that the last statues were erected around 500 years ago, when the supply of trees for rollers ran out. Today the island has a population of around 5,800, mainly of Polynesian origin, and the main economic activities are cattle farming, fishing and tourism. (B,D)
Your stay for the three days is inclusive of 6 shared half day excursions to visit the key sites on Easter Island, provided by the hotel. The programme of available excursions will be confirmed locally and depend on local conditions at the time of visit. Visits are likely to include: moai platforms such as Ahu Tongariki and Ahu Akivi, the quarry of Rano Raraku, Anakena beach, Puna Pau quarry, the Rano Kau volcano and nearby Orongo ceremonial village. Buenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina, dances to the rhythm of tango and pulses with cultural energy.
Founded as a Spanish citadel in the eighteenth century, Montevideo has grown into a bold, intellectual and cosmopolitan city.
The English and the Argentineans aren't the only ones who lay claim to these rocky outcrops north of the Strait of Magellan. Trout, whales, black-browed albatrosses, elephant seals, sea lions, and no fewer than five species of penguin also consider the Falklands their bequeathed domain
Tierra del Fuego, Land of Fire, is the most isolated place in the Americas, and Cape Horn is its southernmost point. These craggy cliffs and windswept shores are stark, rugged beauty personified, creating a dramatic setting for the collision between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Nestled at the southernmost tip of Argentina, Ushuaia stands as the gateway to the wild and untamed landscapes of Tierra del Fuego.
This 360-mile strait isolates the Tierra del Fuego archipelago from the rest of the South American continent, and is named after the ambitious Portuguese explorer and mariner Ferdinand Magellan. You'll retrace Magellan's route as you make the shortest crossing from Atlantic to Pacific between two land masses this side of the Panama Canal.
The southernmost point on the contiguous South American continent, Punta Arenas overlooks the Strait of Magellan and Otway Sound, home to colonies of sea lions and Magellan penguins. It’s also one of the few places on earth where you can snow ski while looking out over the ocean.
Nestled along the windswept shores of Argentina's Patagonia region, Puerto Madryn beckons travellers with its rugged coastal beauty and abundant wildlife.
