On Thursday, we finally got to meet the long-awaited mv Columbus at her naming ceremony event in London Tilbury – she was certainly worth the wait and didn’t disappoint!
It seems so long ago now – back in in March 2016 – that Cruise & Maritime Voyages announced the acquisition of a new flag ship ‘Columbus’. She was at that time still working out in Australia as a P&O Cruises ship.
But demand was high for this new ship and with a fantastic buy one get one free promotion for this brand new ship, the bookings came flooding in. With so many customers booked and ready to sail on her maiden season, we just couldn’t wait to see her and get a taste of what our customers will experience in the coming months.
As we embarked the ship, the Grand Atrium gave us our first ‘wow’ and we were equally as impressed with the public areas and restaurants. Stylish and modern are words we’d use to describe the look of the Columbus. She’s certainly been refreshed. As we toured the ship, we were even able to see some of the cabins, which were spacious and had all the amenities you’d expect.
Godmother, Angela Rippon was there for the naming ceremony – and was absolutely honoured to be involved with the whole event. Following this, we were wined & dined by Cruise & Maritime and their welcoming staff for the evening. We had a wonderful five-course meal – with the surf & turf being a particular highlight.
There was some fantastic entertainment throughout the evening and at 10pm, we were whisked away to the top deck to watch a spectacular firework display over the River Thames. After this, the deck party began.
All in all, it was a wonderful welcome to Columbus. She’s a super little ship and we're sure all our customers will agree.
