Pandaw in the Past
Pandaw River Expeditions was established in 1998 after the owner of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company (dating back to 1865) discovered an original Clyde-built steamer called the Pandaw. This led to the creation of Pandaw River Cruise Expeditions, which at the time was the first of its kind to offer a unique concept and style of cruising on the Irrawaddy and Mekong rivers.
The Ambience of Asia – Life on board a Pandaw River Cruise
Step on board one of the fourteen river vessels in the Pandaw fleet and discover what makes this cruise line one to remember. This is an authentic experience - on what feels like your very own private yacht! Every ship is friendly and intimate, making it the perfect place to unwind and embrace the scenic views. Guests will never be disturbed by large crowds, public announcements and loud entertainment systems. The tranquil and relaxing ambience created is one of the many reasons Pandaw guests keep coming back and exploring more of South East Asia.
Pandaw’s river vessels are smaller than others, catering for around 10-60 passengers. A high quality personal service is delivered with an impressive staff to guest ratio of 1:2. Guests have the freedom to do as they please, including dining when they want. Many passengers enjoy the al fresco dining experience, which allows guests to taste the exotic flavours of Asia while taking in the beautiful scenery sailing by. What’s more, with nearly everything on board included in the cost, guests can relax knowing that all meals, drinks, shore excursions and all on board gratuities are taken care of.
All ships and staterooms in the Pandaw fleet are decorated in brass and teak - the design dating back to the colonial era. The surroundings ooze a charming character that is mixed with contemporary features to maximise comfort. Staterooms on the main or upper deck are very spacious at just under 180 square feet and consistent quality across the fleet – a much loved feature by all guests. Staterooms are a haven of tranquillity allowing guests to escape from the chaos of modern day life with no satellite TVs, internet access, telephones or mini bars – with so much to see and do, these facilities are not missed. If guests do fancy some time in their stateroom they can use the free mini DVD player on request and take a trip to the sundeck bar for some light refreshments from dawn to dusk. All Pandaw ships offer the highest public space-to-guest ratio of any ship so many passengers enjoy spending time sitting on the promenade deck or vast observation deck.
Culture, the Countryside and Cyclos – A shore Excursion aboard Pandaw
A journey with Pandaw would not be complete without their unique shore excursion programme that offers enriched discoveries and activities among the many awe-inspiring destinations along the river. Shore excursions are included in the price of Pandaw’s river cruise packages. Guests will be accompanied by expert guides with extensive knowledge to bring the destination to life. From enjoyable walks in the countryside, a horse cart ride in Burma, or a jungle speedboat adventure to cyclos in Cambodia - a shore excursion with Pandaw will inspire the senses and create treasured memories that will last a lifetime.
Being Active on the River
Although the ships are on a different scale to larger fleets, there’s still plenty to do on board. There are a number of peaceful areas in which to read, paint, write or take that perfect photo, plus daily briefings, cooking demonstrations and fruit carving. In the evening, experience the talents of local people with cultural performances bringing the destination on board. There’s also a number of social events available to attend, including a welcome dinner, cocktail parties and, in Burma, a barbeque on the sandbank.
Discovering Radiant Rivers
Pandaw offers its guests a truly unique experience, sailing along the rivers of South East Asia including the Mekong River, the Red River and the Irrawaddy.
