In 1775, the people of New England began fighting the British for their independence and on 2nd July 1776, the Congress secretly voted for independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was first published two days later on 4th July, 1776, but wasn’t actually signed until a month later.
Today Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commonly known as the 'Fourth of July', where celebrations include fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, sports games and much more.
